Dr. Hsing-Chen Tsai received her medical degree at National Taiwan University (NTU), and completed Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonology fellowship at NTU Hospital, which provides best physician training programs in the nation. Subsequently, Dr. Tsai received her PhD on cancer epigenetics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed the postdoctoral training at The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. After that, Dr. Tsai joined the faculty at National Taiwan University and provided patient care at National Taiwan University Hospital as attending physician. Dr. Tsai’s past and current research achievements include epigenetic regulation of stem cell-related genes in cancer (Cancer Research 2008), molecular and cellular mechanisms of two DNMT1 inhibitors, 5-aza-2’-deoxycytidine and 5-azacitidine (Cancer Cell 2012), as well as interactions of DNA methyltransferases in maintaining cancer-specific DNA methylation across major genome features (Genome Research 2017), among others. Dr. Tsai has also written two invited comprehensive review articles on cancer epigenetics (Cell Research 2011, Molecular Cell 2014), which received many independent citations worldwide. Dr. Tsai's current research directions include, 1) investigate epigenetic regulatory processes at the interplay between cancer cells and immune cells. 2) identify novel circulating methylated markers in lung cancer patients for early diagnosis, disease surveillance, and treatment responses.
